THE REGION

Our location is on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain in Franklin County, Vt. We are far north and able to boat right into Venice and Philipsburg Quebec.

Triple nests in silver maple trees on a three acre island offer superb bird watching. Osprey nests, terns and hawks are visible. Bald eagles are seen occasionally.

Inside our wildlife refuge recreational and educational activities are consistent with the primary goals of protecting and managing wildlife habitat. The refuge is open daily for the public to use. Black Creek and Maquam Creek interpretive trails provide great waterfowl and song bird observation through 1.5 miles of wooded lowlands. Trail guides and wildlife check lists help you identify along the way. Biking and walking trails along Macs Bend, Louies Landing, the Jeep trail and Maquam Bog or Blueberry Marsh all provide awesome sign and sights of wildlife.

Dairy farming and forestry prevail in our area. All the cropland and cut over woodlots along with wild apple orchards and lots of lowlands provide an abundance of upland birds for hunting. Knowing how and when these birds flock, feed and sleep assures optimum flushes per day for our hunters.
